On Saturday, October 25th, 2025, Àger experienced a vibrant day full of activity with the celebration of the 1st Àger Livestock Fair, an event aimed at promoting the shepherd’s trade, local products, and the traditions of the territory.
Despite health restrictions that prevented the presence of live animals, the fair exceeded all expectations and achieved great public participation and enthusiasm.

Throughout the day, Àger’s streets were filled with craft stalls, local food producers, and educational workshops related to livestock farming and rural life.
Visitors enjoyed a diverse programme that blended culture, gastronomy, and tradition:
- Demonstrations of traditional crafts, such as weaving and basket-making.
- The street performance “La Transhumància”, which brought to life —in an artistic and emotional way— the passage of flocks through the village.
- A showcooking session by chef Maria Nicolau, featuring dishes inspired by kid goat, a signature local product.
- Tasting areas and local product markets.
- One of the most anticipated moments of the day was the tasting lunch at Àger’s Local Social, which brought together around 200 people in a festive and friendly atmosphere. The menu combined local produce and traditional recipes, highlighting gastronomy as a key element of community and territorial identity.

The Casa del Montsec – Àger Tourist Office also hosted a puppet theatre show dedicated to transhumance, which captivated the youngest visitors with a story full of values about nature, animals, and the work of shepherds.
In addition, there were children’s workshops where boys and girls could learn and have fun creating crafts inspired by rural life.

In the afternoon, the Àger Town Hall Assembly Hall hosted the screening of the documentary “Transhumància, el camí de l’herba eterna”, directed by Pau Barrull —a work that captures the voices of Pyrenean shepherds and celebrates the wisdom and spirit of this ancient trade.
The day concluded with a tasting of artisanal cheeses, closing the fair in a warm, relaxed atmosphere among neighbours, visitors, and participants.
A fair with a vision for the future

Although the format had to be adapted, the Àger Livestock Fair succeeded in highlighting the livestock sector and local culture, establishing itself as an event with great potential for continuity.
The project is part of the PREPAST – Pastures of the Pre-Pyrenees initiative, supported by the Biodiversity Foundation and funded through the Recovery, Transformation and Resilience Plan (NextGenerationEU).
With this first edition, Àger reaffirms its commitment to a sustainable tourism model rooted in the territory and respectful of nature, laying the foundation for the fair to become an annual reference event in the Pre-Pyrenees.
