Come to watch the birds of the Montsec in Àger!

The year 2025 marks a significant milestone for ornithology in Catalonia: the 50th anniversary of the Institut Català d’Ornitologia (ICO). For half a century, this entity has become an indispensable reference for the knowledge, research, and protection of birds and their habitats in our territory. To celebrate this important anniversary, the ICO has organized a program of activities throughout Catalonia, and the beautiful municipality of Àger, in the Noguera region, will be one of the prominent locations for this commemoration.
The choice of Àger as the venue for one of the celebration events is no coincidence. Its strategic location in the Pre-Pyrenees, its commitment to sustainable tourism, and its valuable natural heritage make it an ideal enclave to highlight the importance of bird conservation in environments of great ecological value, it is expected that the day will be a unique opportunity to bring the fascinating world of birds closer to the local public and visitors. Given the rich biodiversity of the Àger environment, especially its importance as a birdwatching area for birds of prey and other species linked to mountain.
The event will take place on Friday 23rd May in the afternoon, from 5pm to 6pm there will be a workshop to identify the most common birds of Àger and its surroundings, and from 6pm to 8pm we will go on an excursion to recognise and observe these characteristic birds that we can find in our area.
Come celebrate 50 years of ornithology in Àger! Discover the wonder of our birds.
