ÀGER HOSTS THE FIRST OFFICIAL EVENT OF THE 50TH ANNIVERSARY OF THE CATALAN INSTITUTE OF ORNITHOLOGY (ICO)

This weekend, Àger will be the setting for the first of three events to be held throughout 2025 to commemorate the 50th anniversary of the Catalan Institute of Ornithology (ICO)!

The event will take place all day on May 24th, bringing together almost over a hundred ornithology experts from across the territory, and will be held at the Collegiate Church of Sant Pere d’Àger. There, cultural, historical, and natural elements will be combined to showcase the richness of our fauna and environment to the attendees. Furthermore, participants will be able to enjoy a visit to the Montsec Astronomical Park, an experience that will complement this day with the observation of the night sky.

On Friday, May 23rd, starting at 5 PM, and as an activity specially designed for the local population, there will be an informative and outreach talk about the birds that can be seen in the area, followed by a field trip where they can observe some of these species in their natural habitat. This initiative aims to make people aware of the necessity of preserving our land and teach them to value and protect our local animals and species.

Mayor Mireia Burgués highlighted that this is a unique opportunity to discover and enjoy our natural environment, as well as to learn more about the birds that surround us. She also thanked the ICO for choosing Àger as one of the locations to celebrate this important anniversary.

A great occasion to connect with nature, learn about our fauna, and celebrate 50 years of an institution that works for the conservation and knowledge of ornithology in Catalonia!
